Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 chai tea bags
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 1 pinch allspice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup milk (whole, almond, oat, or soy)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (or sweetener of choice)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg, crushed gingerbread cookies

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Once boiling, add 2 chai tea bags and your chosen spices—about 1/2 teaspoon each of cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and cardamom.
  3. Let this steep for about 5-7 minutes to extract all the flavors.
  4. After steeping, remove the tea bags and spices, and add 1 cup of your preferred milk to the saucepan.
  5. Stir well and heat gently until the mixture is hot but not boiling.
  6. Stir in 2 tablespoons of brown sugar (or your sweetener of choice) and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  7. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.
  8. If you have a milk frother, froth the mixture until creamy.
  9. If you don’t, you can vigorously whisk the mixture or blend it in a blender for a few seconds.
  10. Pour the hot chai latte into your favorite mug.
  11. Top with whipped cream if desired and sprinkle with a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg for that perfect holiday flair.
  12. Take a moment to inhale the wonderful aromas, then sip and enjoy the warmth of your homemade Christmas Chai Latte.
