This Chocolate Peppermint Dessert Hummus is a delightful twist on traditional hummus, combining creamy chickpeas with rich cocoa and refreshing peppermint. Perfect for dipping or enjoying by the spoonful, it’s a unique and irresistible treat for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can Canned Chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1/4 cup Maple Syrup or Agave Nectar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Peppermint Extract (or to taste)
  • 1/4 cup Liquid (Dairy or Non-Dairy Milk, such as unsweetened almond milk)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Optional Mix-ins/Garnish: mini chocolate chips, crushed candy canes, or chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the Chickpeas. Drain your can of chickpeas very well and rinse them under cold running water for at least a minute. Optionally, rub the chickpeas between your fingers to remove their thin skins for a smoother texture.
  2. Step 2: Initial Blend. Transfer the rinsed chickpeas to a high-speed blender or food processor. Add about half of the specified liquid and begin to process the chickpeas, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  3. Step 3: Add the Flavor Powerhouses. Once the chickpeas are creamy, add the unsweetened cocoa powder, your chosen sweetener, peppermint extract, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
  4. Step 4: Blend Until Silky Smooth. Continue blending the mixture, scraping down the sides frequently until the hummus is incredibly smooth. If too thick, add the remaining liquid, a tablespoon at a time.
  5. Step 5: Taste and Adjust. Taste your hummus and adjust sweetness or peppermint flavor as desired by adding more sweetener or peppermint extract.
  6. Step 6: Chill and Serve. Transfer the hummus to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Serve with optional mix-ins like mini chocolate chips or crushed candy canes.

Nutrition

Keywords: For ultimate smoothness, consider peeling the skins off the chickpeas. Adjust the peppermint extract and sweetener to your taste, and remember that chilling the hummus enhances the flavors.
