Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef (85-90% lean)
  • 23 tablespoons hot honey
  • 1 cup jasmine rice or brown rice (or any grain of choice)
  • ½ red onion (for quick-pickling, optional)
  • ½ cup water (for quick-pickling)
  • ¼ cup white vinegar (for quick-pickling)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (for quick-pickling)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (for quick-pickling)
  • Salt to taste (for seasoning beef)
  • Black pepper to taste (for seasoning beef)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (for seasoning beef)
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder (for seasoning beef)
  • Cucumber slices (for topping)
  • Avocado slices (for topping)
  • Fresh cilantro (for topping)
  • Quick-pickled red onions (for topping, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Grains: First things first, get your grain cooking. Whether it’s rice, quinoa, or something else, follow the package instructions.
  2. Quick-Pickled Red Onions (Optional but Recommended): While the grain cooks, slice half a red onion very thinly. Place the slices in a small heatproof bowl. In a separate small saucepan, bring ½ cup water, ¼ cup white vinegar, 1 tablespoon sugar, and ½ teaspoon salt to a gentle simmer, stirring until sugar and salt dissolve. Pour the hot liquid over the onions. Let them sit for at least 15-20 minutes.
  3. Cook the Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add your ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until it’s beautifully browned all over, about 7-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Season the Beef: Return the drained beef to the skillet. Season generously with salt, black pepper, a teaspoon of garlic powder, and a half teaspoon of onion powder. Stir well to coat the beef evenly. Cook for another minute.
  5. Introduce the Hot Honey: Reduce the heat to medium-low. Pour 2-3 tablespoons of hot honey over the ground beef. Stir continuously for 1-2 minutes until the beef is fully coated and the hot honey has created a beautiful glaze.
  6. Chop Your Fresh Toppings: While the beef is glazing, quickly chop your fresh vegetables. Dice your cucumber, slice your avocado, and roughly chop your fresh cilantro.
  7. Assemble Your Bowls: Divide your cooked grain among your serving bowls. Spoon a generous amount of the hot honey ground beef over the grain. Arrange your fresh toppings around the beef.
  8. Serve Immediately: Drizzle a little extra hot honey over the top just before serving. Enjoy your delicious Ground Beef Hot Honey Bowl right away!
