- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of butter
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- a pinch of salt
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 2 beaten eggs
- 2 inches of oil for frying
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of butter for toffee
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- a pinch of salt for toffee
- dark chocolate for dipping
- In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of butter, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour. Mix until a ball forms and the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Allow the dough to cool for a few minutes, then add 2 beaten eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth.
- In a deep pan, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting them to your desired length.
- Fry the churros for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- In a bowl, combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon. Roll the hot churros in this mixture until fully coated.
- In a saucepan, melt 1 cup of brown sugar and 1/2 cup of butter over low heat, stirring constantly until it reaches a smooth consistency. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
- Pour the toffee mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and let it cool completely until set.
- Melt your choice of chocolate in a microwave or double boiler, stirring until smooth.
- Dip the churros in the melted chocolate and drizzle with the toffee, or serve the toffee on the side for dipping!
